Soil removal

Soil Removal in Guildford, Explained.

Soil is the heaviest thing most people ever need to get rid of. A modest garden dig-out can be several tonnes, and a skip full of soil hits its weight limit long before it looks full. A grab lorry takes soil by the load instead: up to sixteen tonnes on the eight-wheeler, up to nine on the mini grab, loaded by our driver from the road.

We collect soil from gardens, driveways, patios and building sites across Guildford, Godalming, Chobham and Bagshot. Turf, topsoil and subsoil can go in together, and if there is hardcore or rubble in the pile that is fine too. On a domestic job the arm reaches over the side fence, so nothing has to be barrowed through the house.

Every load is taken to a licensed transfer station where it is screened and recycled, and your waste transfer note comes through by email. If you need topsoil brought in afterwards, or MOT Type 1 for a new drive, the same lorry can deliver it.

Soil we remove

Soil We Remove and How We Handle It.

If it came out of the ground in west Surrey, we have carried it. The ground changes a lot between the Downs and the heath, and so does the weight.

  • 01

    Topsoil and Turf

From garden makeovers, lawn removal and levelling. Light, bulky and quick to load.

  • 02

    Subsoil and Clay

The heavy layer below. Common in the Wey valley and south of Guildford, and priced with the weight in mind.

  • 03

    Chalk

On the Downs side of Guildford and around the Hog's Back the spoil is often chalk, which we take as inert waste.

  • 04

    Sand

The Bagshot and Chobham side sits on sandy heathland soils. Light and free-draining, and easy to load.

  • 05

    Soil With Rubble

Mixed loads from driveway dig-outs and old patio bases, taken in one visit.

  • 06

    Topsoil Delivered

Screened topsoil brought in by the same lorry for the lawn or the beds once the dig is done.

Why us

Why a Grab Lorry Is the Right Tool for Soil.

  • Weight Is Not a Problem

Soil in a skip is limited by weight. A grab lorry takes a full sixteen tonnes in one go.

  • Over the Fence, Not Through the House

The arm reaches 7.6 metres, so the pile can stay where the digger left it.

  • The Mini Grab for Small Jobs

A four-wheel lorry for narrow lanes and loads under nine tonnes, at a lower price per load.

  • Recycled, Not Landfilled

Soil goes to a licensed transfer station to be screened and reused.

Good to know

Soil Removal, Your Questions Answered.

How much soil is in my pile?

A rough guide is that loose topsoil weighs about 1.3 tonnes per cubic metre and clay about 1.8. A pile three metres by two by one deep is six cubic metres, so between eight and eleven tonnes. Send us a photo and we will tell you how many loads.

Can you collect soil from a back garden?

Usually, yes. The arm reaches about 7.6 metres from where the lorry parks and lifts over walls and fences up to around two metres. If the pile is further back, we will tell you before we come out.

Do you take turf and roots with the soil?

Yes. Turf, roots and green waste can go in with the soil.

Can I mix rubble in with the soil?

Yes. Hardcore, brick and concrete can go in the same load. Keep out asbestos, plasterboard, fridges, tyres, batteries, paint, oil and gas bottles.

Can you bring topsoil back?

Yes. Screened topsoil, sharp sand and MOT Type 1 are all delivered by the same lorries, placed with the grab where you want them.
