Mini grab hire
Mini Grab Hire in Guildford, Explained.
Not every job needs a thirty-two tonne eight-wheeler. The mini grab is a four-wheel grab lorry on a lighter chassis, about seven metres long and noticeably narrower, with a tighter turning circle and a grab arm of its own. It goes where the big lorry cannot: narrow village lanes, tight cul-de-sacs, small drives, older properties with limited space, and roads with a weight limit.
It carries up to nine tonnes a trip, which is the right size for a garden clearance, the footings for a small extension, a driveway dig-out or a shed base. A dividing plate down the bed means we can take two different materials in one visit, or deliver a few tonnes of aggregate on the way in and leave with your waste.
It is loaded the same way as the eight-wheeler, by our driver, from the road, with the arm reaching over a wall or fence, and it is priced the same way, per load. If a job turns out to be more than nine tonnes, we will tell you before we come out and send the bigger lorry instead.

Will it fit?
Tell Us How Wide the Road Is and We Will Tell You Which Lorry.
The mini grab is about 2.5 metres wide before the mirrors; the eight-wheeler needs nearer 3.5 metres to get down a road and still swing the arm. Slide the width, or pick a road.
At 3 metres the mini grab gets through with room to spare. The eight-wheeler would need about 3.5 metres, so this is a mini grab job.

When to choose the mini grab
When to Choose the Mini Grab and How We Handle It.
If the road is narrow, the drive is tight or the load is under nine tonnes, the mini grab is usually the right lorry.
- 01
Narrow Lanes and Tight Cul-De-Sacs
Village roads and older estates where a nine-metre eight-wheeler cannot turn or park.
- 02
Small Drives and Restricted Access
The mini grab can often get onto a drive or a site the big lorry has to stay outside of.
- 03
Weight-Limited Roads and Bridges
A lighter lorry for roads and structures with a weight restriction.
- 04
Loads Under Nine Tonnes
A garden clearance, a shed base, a small footing dig or a patio. You are not paying for capacity you do not use.
- 05
Two Materials in One Visit
Soil in one half of the bed, hardcore in the other, thanks to the dividing plate.
- 06
Aggregates in Smaller Quantities
A few tonnes of MOT Type 1, sharp sand or topsoil, placed with the grab where you want it.

Good to know
Mini Grab Hire, Your Questions Answered.
How much can a mini grab carry?
Up to nine tonnes a trip. With the dividing plate in, that can be two different materials, up to four and a half tonnes of each.
What is the difference between a mini grab and a grab lorry?
The mini grab is a four-wheel lorry on a lighter chassis, about seven metres long. The standard grab lorry is an eight-wheeler, about nine metres long, carrying sixteen tonnes with a 7.6 metre reach. The mini grab carries less but gets down roads and onto drives the big lorry cannot.
Is the mini grab cheaper?
Both lorries are priced per load. A mini grab load is smaller, so it costs less than a full eight-wheel load. If you have more than nine tonnes to move, the eight-wheeler is usually the better value because it takes it in one visit.
Can the mini grab deliver aggregates?
Yes. MOT Type 1, crushed concrete, sharp sand, ballast and topsoil in smaller quantities, tipped or placed with the grab. We can bring materials in and take waste away on the same visit.
How narrow a road can it get down?
The mini grab is about two and a half metres wide before the mirrors, with a much tighter turning circle than the eight-wheeler. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the road and the parking spot and we will tell you.
